Frequently Asked Questions

Why is HEIC a problem in the first place?

Apple adopted HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) as the default format on iPhone in 2017. It saves ~50% space vs JPG at similar quality, but Windows, Android, web upload forms, and most online services still don't open it directly. Converting to JPG fixes compatibility.

Does this upload my photos anywhere?

No. Conversion uses a WebAssembly decoder running in your browser tab. Verify by opening DevTools (F12) → Network and watch: no outbound requests with your file content.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Practically 50-200 depending on file sizes and your device. Each photo takes 1-3 seconds. For very large batches (500+), convert in chunks.

Do the converted JPGs keep my photo metadata (EXIF)?

Basic metadata (orientation, capture date) is preserved when possible. Some camera-specific EXIF tags may be lost.
