How to Compress an Image

1

Drop your image

JPG, PNG, or WebP, single or multiple files. Files never leave your device.

2

Pick quality

80% is the sweet spot for most uses. Lower for maximum compression.

3

Download

Compressed images are generated locally and offered as a download.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my image really not uploaded?

Correct — compression runs entirely in your browser via the Canvas API. Open DevTools (F12) → Network and watch: no outbound requests with your file. You can even turn off Wi-Fi after the page loads and compression still works.

What's the best quality setting?

80% for general use (web, email, social) — visually identical to original. 60% for aggressive compression where some softening is acceptable. 50% or below only when file size is critical and viewers won't zoom in.

Does it support PNG transparency?

Yes when you keep PNG as output. If you convert to JPG, transparent areas become white (JPG doesn't support transparency).

Why is WebP smaller than JPG?

WebP uses a newer compression algorithm that produces ~25-35% smaller files than JPG at similar visual quality. Supported by all modern browsers since 2020.

Can I batch compress?

Yes — drop or select multiple images at once. All get compressed with the same settings, then offered for individual download or ZIP download.
